Macbook pro not connecting to internet via ethernet, but works with wifi?
the macbook says that the ethernet cable is connected and is green in the Network Preferences but it will not connect to the internet, my other computer running Windows 7 connects flawlessly. Also when using wifi it works perfectly just not through ethernet. I have already tried different cables and all any ideas?
i tried turning off the airport up top, but it did nothing for me, any other ideas?
turn off the airport(wireless) at the top and to the right of the tool bar. then choose the ethernet connection.
Ethernet Over Copper Is Quickly Becoming The Popular Choice
Typically, when people hear the words "business bandwidth connection", their minds go directly to T1. It is the most common choice because it the most common connection available. It is mostly reliable and the price has been getting lower each year. However, there is a different connection that is rising in popularity recently; Ethernet over Copper.
If a person wants to appreciate how it works, they should turn towards the history of Ethernet technology. Ethernet was invented by a researcher named Robert Metcalfe in the early 1970s. He was tasked to build a large networking system for a large printer manufacturer so that they all of the company's computers could print of the same printer. It was, as is mostly though, the first true "network" with hundreds of systems connected to.
Over time, the technology transformed into many different forms and EoC is the newest type on the market. And it has been rumbling through the market with increasing success.
EoC, where available usually offers a product and service with higher bandwidth and lower prices mostly due to the efficient technology that is present with transporting bandwidth over copper. And in a strange twist it is often pushed by carriers in competition with each other to find a foothold in particular area or market.
It is able to link many small business locations together in a high speed network and is a great option for local school districts and systems. The technology has been around since the 20th century but as stated has just begun to rise in popularity, mainly because many providers have only recently realized how lucrative it can be for them.
Some of the reasons for providers suddenly embracing it are that it has immediate cost savings and can be quickly implemented in areas. However, after that, upgrade possibilities are limited. Another limitation that must be considered by certain customers is that copper is susceptible to a electro-magnetic blast. This would prevent, or at least cause caution, in some industries-especially government where many vital system must remain online at all costs.
And Ethernet offers a wide variety of bandwidth options in speed that gives EoC an advantage. However, there is a slight drawback. The product does have distance limitations and being able to get service is dependent upon the distance from a carrier point of presence.
That being said, the distance limitations only work to solidify it as a very dependable source of bandwidth. It works well in any size network but in regards to many of the smaller ones who are close to the carrier points it offers the best source. And it is remarkably cheaper. For a 30M/30M connection with 150G data downloads for $600 per month over 12 months! This is driving many people to quickly make the choice to initiate EoC for their networks.
The advantages of Ethernet over Copper are something quickly grabs the attention. And while the product does have its cons, it would seem that the pros highly outdo the Cons. There are numerous informational sites and many providers are happy to give a quote on a service that is surprisingly low.
