No, you cannot plug a DSL cable into an Ethernet adapter. They are two different animals.
Computer Support Linking Old Computer To Wireless Network
In order to hook up your old computer to a wireless network (internet) you will need 3 thinks.
First and the most crucial part is internet. Do you already have internet connected to your house? If not you have to pick and select one of the isps (internet service providers). I recommend you read some opinions on them based on your location. Google is a great way to find reviews.
Once you have internet hooked up you will need wireless router. Wireless router is the central unit of the wireless network, it's what sends and receives signal between your computer and the internet. I recommend Linksys its always better to go with a higher end model as the cheaper ones seems to have more problems and tend to loose signal. Keep in mind that I you have a big house you may need more than one wireless router. For the sake of this article I will pretend that one is enough for your needs.
After following wireless router installation manual you are ready for the next step of hooking up your pc to the wireless network. Most old computers do not come with wireless adapters so you will be forced to buy one. You can buy two types. One is installed by usb port while the other uses pci port. If you decide to use pci port you will have to take your system apart in order to hook it up as pci port is directly on the mother board (Mother board is the main part of the computer where all the hardware parts connect too) Keeping that in mind you will sure realize that buying usb adapter is definitely quicker. All u have to do is just plug it in. Once your new wireless card is hooked up your ready to start up your computer and begin supporting software installation. Your computer should be able to detect and install new hardware. If for any reason it fails you will be required to use cd that came with the purchase. Once you put cd in your system it should boot up automatically. Depending on the manufacture there should be a pop up screen with several options one of them should be "install hardware drivers" you will want to select that one and follow on screen directions. Once the installations finishes you should be able to detect and connect to your wireless network.
